The Experience

When you look at your photographs, I want you to remember the great time you had, having them taken.

For each studio photo session, wedding or event my goal is to make your experience the best it possibly can be. Here are some of the ways I do that.

Making it easy to tell me what you’re looking for – and delivering it

When you first get in touch we’ll start by discussing broadly what kind of images you want. I will then prepare a mood board for you – a selection of example images – to help get a clearer understanding of the looks, styles and compositions you like, or don’t like. You’ll be able to leave comments and even add your own favourite images for guidance.

But it doesn’t stop there. During the session or event (if convenient for you) I’ll stop every now and then to show you how it’s going and get your feedback, to make sure we’re on track with your requirements. Then afterwards, while I do selectively apply minor retouching before uploading images to preview, you’ll have the opportunity to request any further particular retouching tweaks to images you order. For portrait photo sessions this is included in the price. It’s all about you getting images you’re delighted with.

A fun and relaxed photo session

At the start of the session some people are a little uneasy about being in front of the camera. If that’s the case you’re welcome to take a few minutes to settle in and chat. There is no rush. This post may also help with any nerves. To get you in the mood for creating great images I will also have prepared a playlist with your music preferences.

As the session progresses, if you’re not used to having your picture taken, you’ll find you very soon get into the swing of it. I will offer guidance and ideas for posing where needed, as well as through our conversation wait for those candid moments with my finger on the shutter.

For portrait sessions there will be the chance for an outfit change or two, and a short break if you need. Most sessions last between 1-2 hours, depending on the number of people and different types of shot required.

When it comes to events and weddings, I’m there not just to capture those special moments, but to make your life easier and add to the occasion too. I’ll coordinate with your organiser or helpers to keep things running smoothly.

Of course things don’t always run like clockwork and part of being a good event photographer is dealing with the unexpected with a calm and cordial agility. But whatever happens you and your guests can rely on a smooth and enjoyable photography experience.

Quick turn around

After the session I’ll take the best of the shots (including any you picked out as your favourites during the session), apply a little ‘digital magic sauce’ and upload them to a private preview gallery for you. This normally contains between 20 and 60 images depending on the type of session.

For event coverage and weddings there are typically many more images, which are delivered as one collection, depending on the package.

I endeavour to get your preview gallery online normally within 7-10 days after the session for portraits (or within the agreed time for weddings and events). Then you can decide on which you’d like to order, in either digital or print form, with various options available for each. At this stage we can discuss any retouching or finishing requirements you have for the images.

For most print or digital orders, you will receive the finished product within a week from the time of your order.

No obligation and no pressure to buy – only order the images you love

No one likes a hard sell, but unfortunately the photography industry is far from free of it. Personally I have little patience for anyone trying to pressure me into buying something, so it’s the last thing I’d want to do to you. And as an artist what brings me satisfaction is knowing that you’re buying my work because you simply and unequivocally want to have it.

My business model depends on doing excellent work and providing a memorably enjoyable service, and that’s the way I like it. This is also why I offer high resolution digital files for portrait sessions (as well as exhibition quality prints). Even though there is potentially more profit from selling only prints, I know if you feel you’ve had a great service and got your images in the way you want them, then you’ll come back and you’ll recommend me to your friends.

At every stage of the process I aim to exceed your expectations.
